Embrace Grace

 Grace has become a theme in my life the past few years. I have not only come to grasp it, but also to delight in it.

There is great joy in embracing Grace, a freeing sense of joy! There is such peace in realizing that I don’t have to spend my life striving to be good enough, or fit in a box, I can just be myself and focus on bringing glory to God right here, right now.

I have fond memories of a friend belting out Grace Greater than Our Sin:

Dark is the stain that we cannot hide;

What can we do to wash it away?

Look! There is flowing a crimson tide,

Brighter than snow you may be today.

Grace, grace, God’s grace,

Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;

Grace, grace, God’s grace,

Grace that is greater than all our sin!

Isn’t that a beautiful thought? Nothing that we can do could ever overwhelm, or overshadow, God’s Grace towards us. None of us are beyond His reach.

Yet so often we go through life like Lady Macbeth, viewing our sin with frustration and crying, “Out, damned spot , out!” But all the water and scrubbing in the world won’t remove the impact of our transgressions.

Only the blood of Christ, by His marvelous Grace can make us clean, and embracing that relieves so much pressure.

We don’t have to mask our shortcomings, but rather use them to point others to Christ. We don’t have to be cookie cutter Christians, but rather we are free to use our own unique gifts and abilities to serve Christ and His Church.

So stop striving, stop the restless pacing, stop the search for perfection, and let your soul rest in the Savior and His Grace.
