Embrace Rest

I was that weird kid that loved naps. I still love naps.

But I struggle with rest.

It feels as though I’m constantly bombarded with thoughts that I’m not enough- not busy enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough, not skinny enough, not healthy enough, not good enough.

Do you know how stressful that is? I think you probably do, because you probably have little red demons of your own.

To rest is to be free, at peace, unburdened, calm.

And in a technicolor world that emphasizes productivity over people, client lists over compassion, of quantity over quality, my head and heart feel like they’re constantly buzzing.

It’s difficult to shake it off, this lie that if you do more, you are more.

But right in St. Matthew’s Gospel, I see this truth: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

So let’s stop carrying these impossible burdens, and give them to our Savior. Because one day, we will be in His Presence, and all these things that seem so pressing, so important, they’re going to pass away, and the things that truly matter will endure.

  1. So true! I love this passage from Matthew. Sometimes when I pray, I can almost feel God taking my worries from me.

And I love naps, too. 🙂
