Review of “Bible Revival”

Bible Revival by Kenneth Berding is a valuable little book that is greatly needed. In just six chapters, Berding issues a clear call to Christians: commit yourself to one book, the Bible.

Berding forces us to face the realization that we are living in an age that is Spiritually starving. We have become distracted by the things of the world, chosen to turn our backs on the necessary “good portion”, and embraced the anxiety and trouble that follow our decision (Luke 10:40-42).

Bible Revival emphasizes that it is never enough to simply read God’s Word. We must value, understand, and obey it, as well. I personally found Berding’s concern over the interpretation of Scripture to be encouraging, as he puts forward that Scripture should be viewed in context, and Scripture ought to interpret Scripture.

Another aspect of Bible Revival that I found convicting was that, too often, those of us who have been raised in the church are too comfortable, too lackadaisical about Scripture.  We have an over-confidence in our Biblical literacy, and fail to properly value the Bible for what it is– our daily nourishment (1 Peter 2:2).

Overall, I found Bible Revival to be a very helpful book, and believe that it would be a valuable resource for groups desiring to grow in their view and understanding of Scripture. I would give it a “B”.
